Good Points. Also, many ppl fail to realize that some of their favorite (industry) rappers - who "dropped out" or "failed to graduate from highschool" - read/wrote at or above a college level at a very young age. Maybe they were bored, and just maybe they had a God given gift that many of us weren't born with. As a result, we (the ones without the "gift") have to work hard/attend school to get (close) to their levels. Metaphorically I will use Chauncey as example, he's a bball player Right? He may have been born with pure talent and only had coaches teach him the fundamentals of the game OR like most of us, he was born average and worked hard with coaches and teachers to get where he is today. In both cases there are exceptions, but generally gaining knowledge/skill - especially if u aren't "a natural" - will help. I'm not positive but I doubt if any other genre of music has such a resistance to higher education and that confuses me. In all, I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY PPL TRY TO KNOCK YOU IF YOU RAP & ATTEND SCHOOL EITHER...its crazy!

niggaz be acting like niggaz cant be in the streets and be in school. I'm the perfect example. i'm on a full scholarship playing divison one basketball at sacred heart university. Im from the hoood. I live that street life too. i dont go around looking for trouble but i know how to handle different situations. nigggaz look at school like its a bad thing. school helps you furnish your street life. school teaches me how to live a organized street life....how do you feel about rappers who attend school?

ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO - PEOPLE IN SORROW

Like the other Art Ensemble record on Nessa, Les Stances A Sophie, this one was recorded in France on the beautiful July 7, 1969 during one of the most fruitful periods for the group.

Unlike that one, though, this one is a very different recording musically.
The LP features one long track, the title cut, and the music is very spare, with lots of nice isolated bass work, horn solos, and percussion.

The group here is a quartet

ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO - REESE & THE SMOOTH ONES

artful work from the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and one of their undisputed classics!

The record features some of the most perfectly realized moments the band ever cut to wax,
with a blend of whimsical multi-instrumental improvisation, and a strong sense of the spiritual tradition in jazz.
The album features one long piece -- "Reese & The Smooth Ones" -- and it's a stunning array of spontanteous instrumentation, with a jagged sound that never stops reinventing itself!

JACK MCDUFF - THE FOURTH DIMENSION

JACK MCDUFF
THE FOURTH DIMENSION

Once again a Jack Mcduff album that feels like a CTI records release.
maybe because of the personell on the date..
Harold Vick on tenor saxophone
Joe Farrell on tenor saxophone, flute
Pee Wee Ellis on soprano & tenor saxophones & flute
Joe Newman trumpet
&
Joe Beck on guitar
